Our Committees
Throughout the year the Brooklin Garden Club offers events, lectures, supports the elderlies in our communities, provides grants to local schools for education in gardening and growing produce for the school kitchen, and scholarships to students from our area who pursue a career in horticulture and/or forestry at the University of Maine in Orono.
If you wish to join one or more of these committees, please contact the committee chair.
Hospitality
Chair: Penny Parson
We organize refreshments for program events by contacting members who volunteer to bake or supply a savory or sweet and involves predicting the amount of food needed. The committee also ensures that all supplies (napkins, cups, beverages, etc.) are at each event. They also assist the hostess who sponsors the event (tables and chair set-up) including the annual meeting and luncheon. The committee also organizes the winter social events (luncheon, pot-luck, etc.).
Publicity
Chair: Julie Boardman
Members of this committee help to increase awareness of the club’s programs, events and activities. Members will submit information and photographs to local newspapers and other media. Members will collaborate with other club committees to promote awareness of the club and encourage individuals to join.
Conservation
Chair: Joy Richardson
Members work with the program committee to host one program per year on conservation. We work with conservation groups in our communities to create awareness among the Club's members of those groups activities and to encourage our members to participate in those activities.
Grants
Chair: Lisa DePasquale
The Grants Committee has been evolving for the past 20 years. In January, we solicit grant applications from local organizations or individuals for proposed projects involving gardening, agriculture, forestry, conservation or ecology which are located in Club’s member towns.
